Mental Health Topics

Student Counseling Services provides a variety of services to Iowa State students. We also encourage students to review helpful information about common mental health topics:

U-lifeline

Ulifeline is an online resource for college mental health. Find facts about common problem, advice on helping a friend or yourself and take the Self-Evaluator assessment.

The Self Evaluator was developed for ULifeline by Duke University School of Medicine and screens for thirteen of the most common mental health conditions that college students face. This screening does not provide a diagnosis, but identifies problems that could be impacting thoughts, feelings and behaviors. The screening process also provides information on these conditions and how to reach out for help.

TAO

This resource guides uses in mindfulness in reference to our current COVID-19 crisis and provides concrete skills. In addition, there are various mindfulness videos available for free.

Half of Us

JED & MTV collaborated on a program that feature a library of free-to-use videos including PSAs, celebrities and students talking about their personal experiences with mental health and substance use. Half of Us helps young people feel less alone and encourages them to reach out for help.

Set to Go

Set to Go is a program from The Jed Foundation (JED) built to help teens prepare for the transition out of high school. Emotional preparedness for life after high school involves five key areas of knowledge and skill development. Set to Go provides a wealth of information about each.

Go Ask Alice

Alice! is not one person, but a team. The Go Ask Alice! site is supported by a team of Columbia University health promotion specialists, health care providers, and other health professionals, along with a staff of information and research specialists and writers. The team members have advanced degrees in public health, health education, medicine, counseling, and a number of other relevant fields.

Mental Health America

Mental Health America provides a collection of online, free, confidential, anonymous, and validated screening tools to help individuals understand and learn more about their mental health. The platform is interactive, dynamic, and free to use.
