Eligibility and Access

Eligibility for Services

CES offers career services to all enrolled undergraduate and graduate students at Iowa State University.  Potential ISU students are also eligible for career coaching services.

Students who are under 18 may be requested to obtain the written permission of a parent or guardian to receive career counseling.  Such students may be seen for an initial assessment without written parental release.

All ISU students, faculty, and staff are eligible to request a career-related presentation.

The Career Exploration Center is open to the general public.  Non-students are able to explore our career library and use computers in order to access online career resources.  However, non-students are not eligible for our career services, including career coaching, career assessment, and career counseling.

CES intends to be as helpful as possible to all members of the university community on behalf of students. If you have a question, call us and ask.

Cost for Services

Most of our services are provided by the university at no charge to the student.  However, students who wish to take the Strong Interest Inventory or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator assessments as part of their Individual Career Counseling will be asked to pay a small fee ($25) to cover the cost of the test. This fee can be charged to the student’s U-Bill if desired.

If you are scheduled for Individual Career Counseling and are unable to attend your appointment, students should call the Student Counseling Service (SCS) front desk (515-294-5056) and ask to cancel or reschedule 24 hours prior to the time of the appointment.  In order to encourage consistency of care to our clients and increase the efficiency of the service to all, SCS will charge $25 for late cancelation/ uncancelled missed individual career counseling appointments, which will be charged to your U-Bill.
